SySTEM Phoenix is looking for a Special Education Instructional Aide who firmly believes that STEM education is essential for preparing students for the world in which they live and work. We seek innovators, collaborators, and problem-solvers who believe that socioeconomic status should not determine access to or achievement in STEM fields. Major Job Responsibilities

 The Special Education Instructional Aide provides instruction to Special Education students and assists with implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process. The Special Education Paraprofessional will ensure students with special needs receive appropriate accommodations and modifications and are provided high quality instruction. 

  • High expectations for all students: Assist in the creation, implementation, monitoring, revision, and evaluation of IEPs for all Special Education students, ensuring all federal accountability requirements are met in a timely manner. Support a mastery-based learning environment and lead students to meet ambitious academic goals.
  • Integrated curriculum development and delivery: Assist in the design and implementation of inter-disciplinary long-term plans and daily lessons that spark student interest in STEM learning.
    Problem-based learning: Motivate learning through the context of a semi-structured problem grounded in real world application.
  • Differentiated instruction: Provide instruction (pull out and/or push in as necessary) to students who qualify for Special Education, ensuring appropriate modifications and accommodations are provided at all times. Provide academic tutoring and support to students before, during, or after school as necessary.
  • Meaningful assessment: Craft opportunities for regular assessment and reflection using a range of methods. Assist in state-standardized testing and ensure compliance with all state wide mandatory instruction, assessment, and reporting requirements.
  • Collaboration with colleagues: Work with colleagues to develop and test innovative solutions. Assist in training staff on all issues related to Special Education instruction and/or assessment, differentiation, and other related topics.
  • Partnerships: Connect students to individuals in academia, industry, and the community with relevant expertise and experience. Build relationships with students and families.
  • Promoting the mission: Champion SySTEM’s mission, vision, and core values.

  • Experience with or a commitment to learn integrated and problem-based approaches to teaching

Other Requirements

  • Valid fingerprint clearance card
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public setting preferred, but not required
